Emilia Martensson: "personal Standards" at 606 Club

The Award winning singer Emilia Martensson first came to the attention of jazz listeners with her guest appearance on the MOBO Award-winning Kairos Quartet’s debut album, and her spellbinding vocals have been causing a stir ever since. In 2015 Emilia was chosen to participate in the "Take Five" Artist Programme and in 2016 received the Parliamentary Jazz Award for “Vocalist of the Year”, an accolade richly deserved and an affirmation of her enormous talent. Her gently expressive voice and highly personal compositions are firmly rooted within the folklore and countryside of her native southern Sweden, adding to the mystique and allure of a distinctive and truly original artist. These days Emilia's set is usually a mix of Swedish folk songs, her excellent gentle originals and popular songs. However, tonight Emilia will be presenting, as she puts it: "…a rare and one-off performance of my own interpretations of some of the jazz standards that made me fall in love with this music. You will hear classics such as 'What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life', 'You Go To My Head' and 'There Will Never Be Another You'." She will also, she tells us, sing some of her new songs from her upcoming album, all of which will serve to highlight Emilia’s beautiful, soaring vocals.
