About

With the mellow days of Autumn upon us, Helen continues her popular Sunday Lunchtime Series bringing you mellow songs and Ella and Sarah favourites such as
“In A Mellow Tone”, “Moonlight In Vermont” “September In The Rain” and “September Song”. You can expect a sprinkling of Jobim along with her much requested Bacharach repertoire and some favourite standards. The wonderful singer and percussionist Josie Frater, who with Steve Taylor runs Ziggy's Jazz Club, is Helen's guest for this gig. Composer and pianist John Crawford whose latest albums “Ulia River Of Time” and “Time And Tides” have met with critical acclaim leads the trio along with Paul Morgan bass, (BBC Radio Orchestra), and Steve Taylor drums (Steve Taylor Big Band and Frater and Taylor). The afternoon also features special guest saxophonist Tim Whitehead who is regarded as one of the UK's top tenor players having played with Nucleus and Loose Tubes as well as such artists as Mornington Lockett and Graham Collier. His album “Colour Beginnings” composed in reaction to the paintings of Turner was the result of his appointment as first musician Artist In Residence at Tate Britain. Classically trained at Goldsmiths' and The Guildhall, Helen has become a familiar face on the London jazz scene over the past decade or so having studied jazz with award winning actress and jazz singer Lea DeLaria. She frequently performs Upstairs at Ronnie Scott's as guest of Renato D'Aiello with whom she made her album “Amici”. Her voice has been described by Claire Martin OBE as “Classy...stunning...with drama and presence….” “Deliciously warm vocals and terrific scatting” Cabaret Scenes....
