About

This evening promises to be something really quite special. It's not often we feature a full size harp and a terrific musician to go with it, but tonight we will be featuring not one harp player, but two! Originating from Melbourne, Australia, jazz harpist and vocalist Tara Minton re-located to London in 2011, since when she has become one of the leading figures in UK contemporary harp circles. Tonight Tara is bringing to the Club her swinging trio, featuring bassist Ed Babar and drummer/percussionist Tom Early. Her recently released album, "The Tides of Love", which she describes as "based on a motif of ocean tides, with themes of love, loneliness, strength and hope woven throughout” was released to no small acclaim with a high profile performance at the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room and sparkling reviews. The musical thrust of her set this evening Tara describes as "a set of original music, Joni Mitchell and Charles Mingus tunes exploring the space where jazz and folk overlap". The band itself performs regularly at festivals and clubs at home and abroad, from The Pizza Express, London to The Rockwood Music Hall, New York. However, that's just the first set! Tara has arranged for her friend and leading European jazz harpist Stina Hellberg Agback from Sweden to perform with her long time musical compatriot, the Swedish guitarist Jonas Isaksson for the second half of the evening. An alumni of the Royal College of Music, Stockholm, Berklee College of Music, Boston, and Trinity College of Music, London, Stina is one of Sweden’s most sought after harpists, performing regularly on Swedish TV as well as being a jazz recording artist of note. Jonas is an Award winning guitarist who performs in many settings from small groups to big bands and orchestras. He has performed with notable names around Europe including Jason Rebello, Eric Marienthal and Bob Mintzer. These two outstanding musianswill be joined by Ed and Tom to make up a pan European quartet performing a mix of orginal music and the occasional standard and Tara is planning to join them for the last few numbers as well! So do come down to this truly unique gig to hear not just one, but two harpists perform both individually....and together! Now that's something you definitely can't miss....
