Sam Crockatt's Brouhaha is made up of three musicians who have recently made the west country their home - Sam Crockatt on tenor saxophone, Riaan Vosloo on double bass and Dave Smith on drums.
The music, which is a mixture of originals, arrangements of folk tunes and standards, is full of possibility. Whilst being at times raw and searching, melody is always at its heart.

Sam Crockatt is a unique voice on the tenor saxophone. His robust and characterful tenor voice – stems from an appreciation of the sound worlds of (amongst others) Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson and Lee Konitz – it’s authoritative yet synergetic, his writing frequently inviting the freedom for musical diversions to flourish, as in this trio format.

His first album ‘Howeird’ won album of the year in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards and his second and third ‘Flood Tide’ and ‘Mells Bells’, received glowing reviews.

Dave Smith is one of the UK's most exciting drummers. He has a huge range of experience and is currently the drummer in Robert Plant's 'Sensational Space Shifters', Jim Hart's 'Cloudmakers' and Pete Wareham's 'Melt Yourself Down ' He has also played and toured with Mark Lockhart, Paul Booth, Niki Iles, and many more.

Double bassist, composer and educator, Riaan Vosloo has made many appearances with many well-known artists and has a growing portfolio of composition and album credits, including work for Jamie Cullum
On top of his freelance work Riaan currently occupies the Bass chair in many projects including Nostalgia 77, Twelves, James Allsop/Ross Stanley quartet, Ed Jones quartet and Richard Fairhurst’s ‘Triptych’. Riaan is currently taking a PhD.
