Mixing R&B, funk, jazz and samba elements, Banda Black Rio were one of the first to undertake the fusion of Brazilian rhythms with international Black music. Formed in 1976, the band's unique and pioneering samba-jazz-funk sound has attracted thousands of worshiping fans across the globe.

Banda Black Rio is considered one of the most important bands in Brazilian music history. The group - founded in Rio de Janeiro by the renowned saxophonist Oberdan Magalhaes - was a pioneering force in the funk-soul scene of Brazil, with their albums Maria Fumaca (1977) and Gafieira Universal (1978), bringing them both critical acclaim and worldwide fame....
