About

We welcome Rebecca Poole aka Purdy back to the Club once again with what promises to be yet another fantastic night of masterful jazz standards with some of her terrific pop/jazz-influenced originals thrown in for good measure. This outstanding singer oozes charisma, which combined with her sultry style and surefooted vocal delivery makes for a masterful evening of highly accessible music. With influences ranging from Nina Simone to Nancy Sinatra, her vocal prowess is stunning and her live performances demonstrate a strong connection with any audience lucky enough to see her live. She has impressed at a number of major events recently, including a 90,000 strong crowd at Wembley Stadium, Formula One events around Europe, The London Lifestyle Awards 2013 and she has just come off tour as support for Jools Holland (who loved her). Her single “What Happened to Romance” was Single of the Week on Jazz FM, and was also picked up by “BBC Introducing”. Her vocal style has been described as “reminiscent of the big band era with an infectious dose of pop and…swing thrown in. A playful smoky-voiced performer who writes bittersweet songs of the heart combining great wit and old fashioned sentiments”. The night wouldn't be complete without her brilliant supporting band, featuring the talents of Mike Gorman on piano, Tom Moore on bass, Chris Higginbottom on drums and Rebecca’s very special guest, American saxophonist and clarinettist Giacomo Smith. Although relatively new to the UK, Giacomo has already made quite an impact on the swing scene as the founding member of the Kansas Smitty’s House Band, “London’s new swing princes” (Evening Standard). The Smitty’s have taken London by storm with their brand of authentic and irresistible American mainstream jazz and Giacomo’s impeccable playing is the icing on what promises to be a wonderful gig. Definitely need to book for this one....
