Widely considered to be one of the UK's leading jazz performers, internationally renowned award-winning trumpeter Steve Fishwick won the 2002 British Jazz Awards 'Rising Star' prize, and has appeared with many of the UK's finest jazz musicians including Sir John Dankworth, the BBC Big Band and Peter King plus numerous leading international jazz musicians such as Ron Carter, Jimmy Heath, Peter Erskine, Scott Hamilton, Ken Peplowski, Richie Cole, Bob Cranshaw and Ronnie Cuber. He was featured on iconic US vocalist Anita O'Day's final recording “Indestructible!” and has also appeared with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Jools Holland and Jamie Cullum. He has released six CDs on the Hard Bop Record label and has performed all over Europe (France, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Estonia, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Italy, Spain and Ireland) and in New York on numerous occasions. Steve is also a distinguished jazz educator, being the principal lecturer of jazz trumpet at Leeds College of Music as well as being on the teaching faculty at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and London City University. Tonight Steve will be bringing in his sextet to launch his latest CD "In the Empire State" which was recorded in New York while Steve was performing there. Another Anglo-American collaboration (see Mon 8th) this gig also features three great US musicians, baritone player Frank Basile (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Jimmy Heath, Dave Holland, Joe Lovano), pianist Jeb Patton (Heath Brothers, Antonio Hart, Jackie McLean) and bass player Mike Karn (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra) as well as two other terrific UK musicians, Osian Roberts on sax and Matt Fishwick on drums (along with Steve himself)....
