About
The Steely Dan Big Band plays the music of Steely Dan, arranged for instrumental 18-piece big band.
The repertoire includes some exciting arrangements by American arranger, Fred Sturm. The band is assembled from current LCM students and alumni, and and friends. (photo Dan Clark)
The SDBB breaks down the boundaries of conventional big band writing and takes inspiration from rock and pop idioms without sacrificing the foundation of jazz. The lineup includes Fender Rhodes, Marimba, Vibraphone and an electric rhythm section.
Katie Patterson won the Jazz Yorkshire Young Musician of the year award in 2012. Her real passion lies with jazz fusion. She's drawn to it because of the versatility required from all the musicians. "It takes all the best of
jazz, the harmonies and melodies and puts it over rock and funk feels" she says. Her drumming is getting noticed too...
'Katie is a wonderfully accomplished drummer with a very broad style. Her natural musical feeling and understanding has already made her a highly popular first choice as the combination of strengths she posses is quite rare'. Martin France
