Welcome return from US based tenor sax star Benn Clatworthy, a former member of the Horace Silver band, and musical associate of edar Walton, Lionel Hampton, Jimmy Cleveland, and many other jazz greats. Benn is also saxophonist with punch. The Los Angeles-based tenorist, who works out in a boxing gym when off duty, has distilled the early influences of Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins and Booker Ervin into his own dynamic style which often carries the rhythms of the boxer’s speed bag.
Benn is a truly impressive modern jazz tenor who Ronnie Scott rated as one of the best UK players that he had ever heard. Although British (very!) Benn is now resident in California where he has established himself as an important talent, although he does return to Britain on a regular basis. A powerful and impressive player this is a gig not to be missed. The band sees a welcome return to Seven Jazz of pianist John Donaldson and bassist Simon Thorpe and the first time for rising star Josh Morrison on drums.
